Careful and frequent brushing with a toothbrush helps to prevent build-up of plaque bacteria on the teeth.
Dental calculus (tartar, hardened plaque) buildup on teeth, usually opposite salivary ducts, is due to minerals deposited on resident plaque.
Frequent brushing and flossing prevent these deposits.
Removal of dental tartar is performed in our practice with the use of ultrasonic scalers and stain removal is accomplished through polishing with a prophy paste.
Removal of excessive staining (i.e. heavy smokers, excessive coffee consumption) is performed with the use of Air Flow.
Following completion of scale and polishing, each patient is given detailed oral hygiene instructions on brushing using the Bass technique, use of the dental floss and interdental brushes with visual aid.
